- Transplants: Brandywine Tomato$6.00
One of the most flavorful tomatoes. We describe Brandywine's luscious, heirloom flavor as"very rich, loud, and distinctively spicy." The large fruits, often over 1 lb., have a deep pink skin and smooth, red flesh. The medium-tall potato-leaf plant is best staked or caged. Indeterminate.
- Transplants: Cosmonaut Volkov Tomato$6.00
(65 days) Open-pollinated. Indeterminate. “Sturdy, productive, cool-weather tolerant and great flavor,” lauds Anne Elder of Community Farm in Ann Arbor, Mich. A superb home-garden variety with good commercial potential both outdoors and in tunnels, Cosmonaut always tastes good, occasionally sublime. Produced the best two tomatoes I’ve ever eaten, from different gardens in different years. Usually ripens quantities of deep red slightly flattened 8–12 oz globes at the beginning of August when tomato craving is at its peak. What makes Cosmonaut so special is its juice: sweet, rich and full-bodied. Even in cold summers, it will produce dependably by mid-August.
- Transplants: Cherokee Purple Tomato$6.00
Famously rich flavor and texture make this a colorful favorite among heirloom enthusiasts. Medium-large, flattened globe, 8-12 oz. fruits. Color is dusky pink with dark shoulders. Multilocular interior ranges from purple to brown to green. Relatively short vines. Indeterminate.
- Transplants: Sungold Tomato$6.00
Intense fruity flavor. Exceptionally sweet, bright tangerine-orange cherry tomatoes leave everyone begging for more. Vigorous plants start yielding early and bear right through the season. Tendency to split precludes shipping, making these an exclusively fresh-market treat. The taste can't be beat. 15–20 gm. fruits. High resistance to Fusarium wilt and tobacco mosaic virus. Indeterminate.
- Transplants: Fiaschetto di Manduria Tomato$6.00
Fiaschetto is a regional treasure of Puglia in Southeast Italy complete with a designated Slow Food presidia. These small, 2-3 oz, plum-shaped tomatoes with a slight nipple at the blossom end hang like grapes from the bushy determinate plants in such prolific quantities that we eventually had to just stop picking them because we couldn’t keep up with the processing. In Puglia it is preferred even over the more famous San Marzano as the base of passata di pomodoro, an uncooked tomato sauce that emphasizes the freshness and fruitiness of the tomatoes. The harvests are extremely early for a paste type and conveniently concentrated for processing purposes. The most productive plum/paste type we’ve grown and unlike many varieties of the hot Mediterranean south, well adapted to our climate. Determinate.
- Transplants: Striped German Tomato$6.00
Bicolor red-and-yellow fruit. The flat, medium-to-large tomatoes with variable shoulder ribbing are shaded yellow and red. The marbled interior looks beautiful sliced. Complex, fruity flavor and smooth texture. Medium-tall vines bear 12+ oz. fruit. Indeterminate.
- Transplants: Black Cherry Tomato$6.00
Round, full-flavored cherry with distinctive purple-black color.One-inch fruits with the juicy, meaty texture and sweet, rich flavor characteristic of all Russian black tomatoes. A striking addition to cherry tomato mixes. Very productive plants.
- Transplants: Shishito Pepper$6.00Out of stock
Avg. 3–3 1/2" fruits are thin-walled and have no heat. Popular in Japan, where its thin walls make it particularly suitable for tempura. Also very good roasted, in stir-fries, or sautéed. In Asia, the fruits are always cooked green, but they may also be used red. Thinly sliced, the red, slightly sweet fruits are excellent in salads and cole slaws. The plants are large and very productive. The fruits are similar to Mellow Star, which is unavailable this year, but are slightly narrower and paler in color.
- Transplants: Early Jalapeno Pepper$6.00
Prolific yields of flavorful blunt fruits with distinctive jalapeno flavor. Small, moderately spicy fruits with thick walls are traditionally harvested dark green but can be allowed to ripen to red. A classic eaten fresh or pickled with Mexican dishes! Compact plants are sturdy and work well in containers.
- Transplants: Criolla Sella Pepper$6.00
(C. baccatum) A member of the Aji family of hot peppers native to Bolivia, Criolla Sella is an excellent producer of small (2.5” x 3/8”) golden orange fruits in abundance. The heat is middling and the flavor amazingly rich and citrusy. It can be used fresh in salsas, fermented or cooked for hot sauces, or dried and ground for a very flavorful seasoning. An early Aji type, Criolla Sella is particularly well adapted to cooler growing conditions from germination to fruit set. Plants stand about 3’ with small leaves and heavy branching and do not require support.
- Transplants: Hungarian Hotwax$6.00
Long, banana-shaped waxy pepper used for frying, stuffing and pickling. Ripens from pale yellow to deep golden orange and finally cherry red, but traditionally harvested light green and used for pickling. May be harvested at any stage but heat intensifies as peppers mature. Very productive even in cool weather. Heat varies among strains; HMOS strain is spicy but not overly hot.
- Transplants: Spadella Calabrese Pepper$6.00
This variety produces long cylindrical shaped fruits that are very spicy and are supported by a long and robust peduncle. A fairly vigorous plant that grow about 7-8 inches long straight and pointy that go from intense green to bright red at full maturity.
- Transplants: Pasilla Bajio Pepper$6.00
Pasilla means "little raisin" in Spanish, referring to the dark brown, wrinkled, dried form of the chilaca pepper. Fresh chilaca adds depth to red enchilada sauce and salsas. The dried pod, or pasilla, is a flavorful and important ingredient in traditional mole sauce. 1,000–2,000 Scoville heat units (mild).
