Buckeye candies, featuring peanut butter fudge dipped in chocolate to resemble the nut of an Ohio buckeye tree, were created in 1964 by Ohio resident Gail Tabor. While dipping peanut butter balls, she left a small circle of peanut butter exposed, mimicking the look of the inedible nut.

The chocolate chip cookie was invented around 1938 by Ruth Graves Wakefield by chopping up a Nestlé semi-sweet chocolate bar, expecting it to melt into the dough. Instead, the pieces held their shape, creating the first modern chocolate chip cookie.
