This release features a variety that is new to us and a farm that is not. The variety is known locally in Peru as Bourbon Marshell, named for the owner of the farm where the unusual seed was first discovered and later multiplied for distribution. It was grown at Finca La Palestina by the Alarcón Coronel family, a rising star in our global Direct Trade network. Flavor notes: toffee, dats, & white grapefruit.

This lot was grown by smallholder farmers who are part of METAD's Kirite network in the Guji region of Oromia. It is an elegant coffee with floral aromatics and notes of fresh peach, sweet meyer lemon, and hibiscus.

Raised in a family of coffee farmers, Julian Palomino learned how to cultivate coffee alongside his grandparents before heading to university to study agronomy. Using his degree, he spent years working with coffee producing families across Cauca. Eventually, he and his wife, María Teresa, purchased land to establish a farm of their own: El Progreso. Over the past decade, they have transformed former pasture land into a thriving four-hectare coffee farm planted primarily with Castillo, a Colombian variety with resistance to coffee leaf rust. This lot showcases the Palomino family’s take on Castillo, shaped by the cloud-covered terrain of Totoró and careful double-washed processing. The resulting cup is clean and sweet, layered with notes of ripe stone fruit.

Carlos Alberto Estrella has been cultivating coffee for nearly three decades, carrying forward a family tradition passed down through generations. Inspired by both legacy and a desire to chart his own path, he transitioned from cattle farming to coffee production, embracing new varieties and production techniques while building on the knowledge inherited from his parents and grandparents. Today, he manages a nine-hectare coffee farm in Nariño, refining his approach through continuous learning and collaboration with his brothers. Despite challenges like climate variability and rising costs, Carlos' dedication has earned him recognition in both national and regional competitions, placing 9th in Colombia's Cup of Excellence and 2nd in Nariño. This lot showcases La Estrella's Castillo, a resilient variety well suited to the high elevation growing conditions of Buenos Aires, La Unión, which lies just north of the Equator.

This release marks a new chapter in our long partnership with the Ruiz family of Banexport. Following the success of Finca Juan Martín, they established Santa Bárbara in nearby Timbío, Cauca, to further their work cultivating rare and emerging coffee varieties. Among the farm's earliest plantings were Pink Bourbon trees, and this washed lot represents their second harvest. Named for the salmon-pink color of its cherries, the variety was first identified in Colombia as a natural mutation of Bourbon, but more recent genetic testing has revealed close ties to Ethiopian landrace varieties. While its exact lineage remains something of a mystery, there's little doubt that Pink Bourbon is one of the most talked-about varieties in modern Colombian coffee.

Just outside the capital city of Nairobi in Kiambu County, where agricultural land is increasingly giving way to real estate development, some 1,000 smallholder growers form the Gatatha Farmers Company and continue the area's long tradition of coffee production. They cultivate prized Kenyan varieties, including SL-28 and SL-34, and deliver their daily harvest of ripe cherry to Windrush Estate for sorting and processing. This washed lot presents a selection of peaberries, small round beans distinguished not only by their size and shape, but also by the rare coffee cherries that produce them. Unlike most coffee cherries, which contain two seeds, these cherries naturally develop only one.
