    • Beauregard Cabernet Sauvignon 'Beaugregard Ranch' 2014

The 2014 Beauregard Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon has a highly concentrated dark garnet red center. The 2014 Cabernet is showing expressions of a truly mature vineyard with a deep and rich profile. The palate is full bodied and multi-layered with a beautiful harmony between ripe fruit, oak, and earth flavors which reflect the nose.

    • Beauregard Cabernet Sauvignon 'Beauregard Ranch' 2018

On the nose, the wine is ripe yet has an old world flare akin to a modern classified red wine from Bordeaux. There are notes of ripe black currants, black plum, cassis, leather, red tobacco, cedar, wet rocks, toasted oak and delicate oak spices. The palate is full bodied and multi-layered with a beautiful harmony between ripe fruit, oak, and earth flavors which reflect the nose. The finish is lengthy and fades slowly. I highly advise waiting until the wine has 7-8 years of bottle age to really discover the true beauty these wines have the ability to show. The fruit will eventually integrate, the savory notes will emerge, and the wine will slowly change and show a personality similar to top Bordeaux with a touch more flesh and texture on the palate. California / Ben Lomond Mt. /

It will be interesting to see if the 2016 gains a bit more volume in bottle. It is such a promising wine. At 1,000 feet and six miles from Monterey Bay, this site is truly on the edge of viticulture. • Samuel Louis Syrah 'Sandstone Terrace' 2021

Lovely and plump purple-flower buds of night jasmine and lavender meet with thyme, pink peppercorns and underripe dark berries on the expressive nose of this wine. There is extreme zest to the sip, strong tannic grip and tart boysenberry flavors, with pepper and baking spice on the finish. Syrah California/ Santa Cruz Mountains Sandstone Terrace refers not to our vineyard source for this wine, but to the underlying geology that makes the vineyard and wine special. Underneath the clay and sandy clay loams that characterize much of the southern Santa Cruz Mountains is a bed of weathered sandstone, mudstone and shale. These soils were formed on ancient marine terraces, whose close proximity to the coast give the wine it’s classy, cool-climate Syrah character.

One of the most dramatically beautiful sites on the Central Coast, Coastview is a success story written by cool-climate syrah. Organically farmed, the thin soils of decomposed granite with veins of limestone are planted to chardonnay, pinot noir, grenache, Bordeaux varieties, and of course syrah.

    • Sante Arcangeli Pinot Noir 'Ananda' SCM 2019

Melanie Ananda Benedetti died shortly before harvest 2019, at age 44. The 2019 Ananda Pinot Noir is the end product of all the love, grief, sorrow, loss, and my desire to honor her by moving forward. I was a mess, and threw myself into harvest with only 1 clear objective: channel all of the above into something that can bring others joy amid sadness. Here is the result. She was made by first making a direct-pressed rosé from Split Rail Pinot Noir, and then moving the pressed skins into a fermenter, where another ton of Pommard clone from Split Rail was destemmed on top. The resulting fermentation was mellow and deliberate, a lot like Mel was, with amazing blue fruit aromas. Much later, a barrel of Lester Family Vineyard Pinot Noir was blended in during the wine’s 18 months of barrel aging. I love the wine, and Wine Enthusiast agreed, by giving her 94 pts

It is usually just on the right side of glossy; a polished, modern style, but true to its terroir. Notes of flowers, graphite, blåbär and wild plums. There is a wonderful sappy intensity and minerality to the sumptuous palate. Vital, classical and grippy; an impressive Montlandrie! 75% Merlot, 20% Cab Franc, 5% Cab Sauvingnon France/ Bordeaux/ Castillon

    • Château Roc de Cambes, Côtes de Bourg '09

In the glass, the Roc de Cambes is a dark, nearly opaque garnet red with some encroaching orange at the rim betraying its age. Aromas of preserved black cherry, raspberry, black plum, cacao, ground coffee, bay leaf, and exotic spice jump from the glass and carry over to a polished and full-bodied palate which finishes with layers of nuanced earth notes. What distinguishes this from many ’09s I’ve tried is its focus and freshness: the ripeness is evident but it perfectly lifted by bright acidity. It is a beautifully constructed wine, with exquisitely managed tannins, that still has lots of gas in the tank: If drinking now, decant it about 30 minutes before serving in large Bordeaux stems next to a seared beef tenderloin in a simple pan sauce. Light purple color. Lovely aromas of tangy black cherries and currants, topped in violets, clove, iron, bay leaf and cracked black pepper. Medium-bodied, silky but structured tannins, vibrant acidity – this is all lined up wonderfully. Red and black cherry fruit, suave but tangy, blended well with complex notes of black pepper, violets, bay leaf, iron, paved road. Character of the wine Nuits St Georges wines make you long to bite into them. Although their name evokes twilight and nightfall, these premier crus have a fairly vigorous nature, hard while immature, more caressing later on. This wine dazzles you less by its body than by its subtlety. It is as if the Côte regretted having made an oversight, and had returned to Vosne for a moment. They are a deep ruby in colour, and possess a vigorous personality, with fennel elements and aromas of red fruits. The fine acidity that characterises these wines makes them perfectly balanced and suitable for lying down. Wine datasheet Total

It's a sweet luxury when you work with a winemaker who does double duty between her vineyards in Pouilly-Fumé and Sancerre crafting compelling wines from both. We've been singing high praises for Annick's Pouilly-Fumé for years now and for whatever reason promoting her Frétoy Sancerre with a little less fanfare. Well I gotta' say it's time for that mentality to change. Annick's 2018 release is a thing of beauty sourced from 40-year old vines growing in flint and limestone soils. All farming is done organically with absolutely no insecticides or unnatural fertilizers used in the vineyards. Pecorino "Sibillino" is an orange collered white wine produced by the Annesanti winery in Umbria that best expresses the intrinsic characteristics of the variety of the same name. • Clos Ste. Magdeleine Rosé 2020

This rosé hails from a single-parcel vineyard tucked back a bit from the coast and hidden among pines, wild lavender, and citrus trees. Dark red clay and an insulating layer of limestone rocks harbor the entire diverse collection of Grenache, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, and Syrah vines used in the field blend. Winemaker Jonathan Sack’s father has called Clos Sainte Magdeleine’s wine “Provençal sunshine in a glass,” but I’d add that this rosé has real depth. It’s a terroir-driven wine that evokes the very earth of Provence. As if the grapes were infused with that salty sea air and wild sagebrush, there are hints of each, along with crisp lemony nuances and a whole lot of those ripe little strawberries for sale at the roadside markets. Grapes: 35% Grenache, 35% Cinsault, 20% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah France / Côtes de Provence

    • Tenuta Anfosso 'Antea' Vino Bianco 2018

“When my grandfather was a kid, the vines were already ancient,” says Alessandro Anfosso, estimating the surviving Rossese Bianco to be at least 150 years old. From thick, ungrafted trunks of this nearly extinct variety, Alessandro crafts a white wine similar to what his grandfather would have made. After four days fermenting on the skins, it is transferred to acacia casks, where it rests until an unfiltered bottling. Savor this richly textured, deeply flavored nugget of local tradition with mushroom tagliatelle, sheep’s milk cheeses, a spinach frittata, or the Ligurian antipasto torta verde.
