Circa 1915, The Last Word was 35 cents a pop, and was the most expensive drink at the Detroit Athletic Club. With gin, green chartreuse, maraschino liqueur and fresh lime juice, this cocktail was the favorite drink of vaudeville performer Frank Fogarty, who traveled the country pioneering a stage monologue style that would later become known as ‘Stand up Comedy’

Est. 2008, The Paper Plane, invented by NY Barkeep Sam Ross, is a riff on the pre-prohibition cocktail The Last Word. Named after M.I.A.’s hit song Paper Planes, which stayed on repeat, the summer this drink was born.

Est. 1911, our favorite Martini theory, points to California during the gold rush, when a bartender named Jerry Thomas, living in the Bay Area town Martinez, whipped up a sloe gin, sweet vermouth. and bitters cocktail, for miners who wanted to celebrate striking gold. Eureka!

The Old Fashioned, arguably the world’s first classic cocktail, originated in the early 1800s as a simple mixture of spirits, sugar, water, and bitters. It gained its specific name in the 1870s-1880s as a backlash against increasingly complex, "improved" cocktails, with the Pendennis Club in Louisville often cited as its 1880s birthplace.
