The story begins in 1979 when a French winegrower’s son named Monsieur Joseph went out into the world to find his way. He fell in love with northern Italy and decided to stay and start a vineyard. And the Frenchman decided to change his name to Italian. So Monsieur Joseph became Signore Guiseppe and the rest, they say, is history. This wine has lots of personality; notes of pear and orange blossom, some mineral and a hint of almond. Perfect for aperitivo hour with bruschetta and veggies and dip. $12

With the skyrocketing cost of Sancerre and the other Sauvignon appellations in the Loire, we’re always looking to find the hidden values from less known places. The Le Garenne wines are sourced from small family growers and winemakers. This wine is made by Jean Marc Gilet, a 5th generation vigneron in Vouvray. There’s gorgeous currant, melon, and gooseberry fruit along with flinty minerality. Fabulous with oysters and shellfish. $14

Sourced mostly from a single vineyard in Mendocino, the nose is moderately intense offering scents of raspberry and pomegranate with supporting notes of red cherry, slate, and five spice. The palate confirms the nose delivering a red fruit-driven core with flavors of boysenberry, rose petals, and dried herbs. The finish is long and lingering with subtle, tart red fruit accents. Medium-bodied and perfectly balanced with a vibrant texture. $14

Cantine Madaudo started in 1945 with a small vineyard in Sambuca di Sicilia. Now, Rosario Madaudo is the 4th generation winemaker of this family estate. They have vineyards in Sambuca close to the sea as well as some on the northern slope of Mount Etna. This wine, made from the re-discovered native Nerello Mascalese, is a stylish, medium-bodied red, with pretty notes of dark fruit, underbrush, dusty cocoa and toasted oak, with a supple personality and well-integrated tannins. It’s fantastic with class Italian fare. $15

The wine has fragrant aromas of violets and blackberries that lead to a medium-bodied wine with an accessible personality, savory flavors, and a seamless finish. Perfect for fajitas and carnitas. $15

A new wine from Albert Bichot that is really fun and an excellent bistro style red. It’s a 60% Pinot Noir & 40% Syrah blend that is sourced from vineyards in the south of France near the Mediterranean. Juicy cherry and red raspberry fruit, some nice cinnamon and baking spice on the soft, ripe finish. Drop it in an ice bucket for 10 minutes and enjoy with all your favorite Mediterranean fare. $12

This wine is a ton of fun. It’s a blend of Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, & Syrah. It's fresh and fruity, with just a bit of tannic bite. It’s quaffable and easy to understand, but the structure is very good for the level, and the vivid, fruit-forward finish makes this extremely delicious and maybe a little Beaujolais-esque. Drink it with meatloaf, ham and seared tuna. $14

Santa Julia is the largest producer of organic grapes in Mendoza. This Chardonnay is made in an unoaked, fresh style. Lots of Granny Smith apple, orange blossom and pear. It’s a great spring and summer style that will work well with steamed mussels, veggie stir fry, or roasted salmon. $13
$13.00 - ***Secret Cellars Chardonnay, 2021, Central Coast, California
I love this Chardonnay for its balance. It is sourced from cool Central Coast vineyards so there’s lovely red apple, roast pear and lemon curd fruit. It sees some French oak aging which gives some baking spices and a bit of toastiness. And partial malolactic fermentation gives us some notes of butter and baked apple pie. The whole combination comes together beautifully. We love this wine with meatier fish, mac-n-cheese & pork tenderloin.

Arneis (ar-NACE) is a bit of a rare grape in Piedmont, which is a shame because it makes fantastic wines. Pretty aromas of minerals, white peaches, flowers, and pears in its lovely, medium-bodied, deliciously fruity personality. It is not meant to age, but will pair beautifully with sushi, grilled octopus, fresh white fish and veggie pastas. $14
